**I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.**
I was anxiously awaiting this release & can happily say I loved it. I started reading at approximately 10:45pm, thinking I’ll read a few chapters and call it a night. I should’ve known better. After experiencing all kinds of feels, I realized it was almost 2am, I was crying (I’m not saying why, but my heart broke over it), and the book is finished. This is my third book from Alison, the third in this series in fact, and each book has impacted me the same way. I start & I just can’t put them down until I see “The End.” I get sucked into this world & can’t stop because I have to know what happens with the couple and won’t be satisfied until I’ve read the whole book. That is my kind of author.
This is the story of Chase, Theresa, and Katie. Chase, Seth’s (book one hero) friend and business partner, and Theresa, Abbey’s (book one heroine) friend and coworker, met at Seth and Abbey’s engagement party. Chase was immediately drawn to Theresa and wanted to get to know her better. Katie, her seven year old daughter, also immediately captures his heart. Theresa is a single mother and has been one for Katie’s entire life. Kyle, Katie’s father, has never been father of the year material *the song Loser by Beck runs through my mind* and continually disappoints Katie with the lack of follow through on his promises. Theresa and Kyle were never married, and after Kyle missed Katie’s birth, it wasn’t long before Theresa broke up with him. However, the appearance of Chase in Theresa and Katie’s life makes a difference in the amount of attention Kyle gives his daughter. *cue Hey Jealousy by the Gin Blossoms. Yes, you’re welcome for today’s earworm. LOL*
Chase knows he has trust issues thanks to an ex-girlfriend who used him for his money, yet he wants to see where things lead with Theresa, because he’s so drawn to her. He truly cares for her and adores her daughter, Katie. Theresa also has trust issues due to her experience with her ex, Kyle, yet is attracted to Chase, feels safe with him, and loves how he is with her daughter. As Chase and Theresa learn to trust each other, their love for each other, and Chase’s for Katie and vice versa, grows every day. But there’s outside forces that are disrupting their happiness. Chase and Theresa must deal with Kyle as he tries to create trouble because Theresa has a new man, a real man, in her life and Katie adores him. Plus, Theresa is dealing with the serious illness of a family member and Chase is right by her side every step of the way, proving again and again that she can count on him, that he’s all in, because Theresa and Katie are it for him.
I highly recommend this book, this series, this author. I was immediately hooked with her debut book and each subsequent book has only strengthened my fangirling. I’m eagerly anticipating the next book in the series. I enjoyed revisiting with Seth and Abbey (recently returned from their honeymoon), Sean and Tracey (celebrating an engagement and some other happy news *wink*), watching Chase & Theresa fall in love, and I believe Michael (Abbey’s bodyguard from book one), has found his one in Sylvia. (Psst…she has a history with one member of the group & I loved what their connection is. It cracked me up.)
On a side note, I’d stated in a previous review about the lack of contractions. While it didn’t detract at all from the story, it was a little unusual because we all use contractions in our everyday lives. I’d also stated that I was looking forward to watching this author grow in confidence in herself and in finding her voice. While there’s a couple things that could use some polish (for lack of a better word), such as condensing certain things, along with letting us read things more as opposed to showing us, I definitely feel this author is developing more and more with each new release. She’s finding her niche as she goes and I can’t wait to see where she takes us next.
